TurnLine: Tungaloy Corporation has Now Introduced Its New “TunGroove”Range for Forming Operations

Iwaki / Japan, 10. January 2014 - Further extending its extensive turning portfolio, the Tungaloy Corporation has now introduced its new TunGroove range of inserts and toolholders for forming operations. The new product line has been developed to cater for the demands of manufacturers that are machining rotor shafts, miniature parts, bearing components, pulleys and additional products that require intricate form turning and grooving.

The new range incorporates PSGB type inserts for forming with widths of 10, 15, 20 and 25 mm stocked as standard with semi-finished blanks retained in stock, ready to meet the customer rapid turnaround demands while the extremely rigid toolholder design provides a stable machining performance.

The new TunGroove includes a wealth of innovative features in the new toolholder design, which includes a newly designed lever lock insert clamping unit that improves chip flow over the insert during heavy machining. This new clamping system can be operated from the front to improve access. However, for forming operation that demands smaller material removal rates, the inserts are available on toolholders with a standard top clamping screw mechanism. Combining with a dove tailed insert seat and insert edges, rigidity is further improved to completely eliminate insert movement and enhance surface finishes and rigidity. And with a large insert overhang, toolholder modifications are not necessary for any formed inserts.

The new geometry for PSGB type for forming operation can deliver reduced cycle times when compared to copy turning. The TunGroove PSGB type is available in Tungaloy’s market leading UX30, TH10 insert grades. These grades extend the capability of the TunGroove, with the UX30 providing high performance machining of steel and stainless steel with exceptional impact resistance. Furthermore, the TH10 is most suitable grade for cast iron and non-ferrous materials with impeccable wear resistance.
